The Gul Plaza fire remains a tragedy. Authorities now require DNA samples from relatives to identify 26 deceased victims and over 70 missing persons. With the building unstable, the Sindh Forensic DNA and Serology Lab (SFDL) is working to provide closure. Families must visit the Civil Hospital Trauma Centre immediately.
DNA Samples Needed for Gul Plaza Fire Victims
If you have a missing loved one, you must provide a DNA sample. This is currently the only way to identify the remains recovered from the Gul Plaza fire. Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed confirms that many bodies are unrecognizable.
The process is straightforward but urgent. You should head to the Civil Hospital Karachi help desk. The CPLC Shanakht Programme has set up a station right outside the trauma center.
Here is what you need to do:
- Bring immediate blood relatives (parents, children, or siblings).
- Register the missing person’s details with the CPLC desk.
- Provide a swab or blood sample for the Gul Plaza fire identification process.
The Sindh Forensic DNA and Serology Lab (SFDL) is currently processing samples. Over 48 families have already submitted their DNA. Reports indicate that between 60 and 81 people remain missing.
The structure of Gul Plaza is “100 percent unstable.” This makes recovery slow and dangerous. Because officials found remains in fragments, the Gul Plaza fire forensic teams rely entirely on cross-matching samples at the University of Karachi facility.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced Rs. 10 million in compensation for each victim’s family. However, you must complete the legal identification first.
If you cannot reach the hospital immediately, use these official Gul Plaza fire helplines:
- 0313-5048048 (DC South Office)
- 021-99206372
- 021-99205625
The recovery operation continues with the Pakistan Army and Rangers. Stay updated through official channels and ensure you register your data at Civil Hospital Karachi to help bring your loved ones home.
