Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has extended the mandatory M-Tag deadline to January 15, 2026, to manage the surge of motorists at registration centers. With automated enforcement starting soon, over 120,000 vehicles have already registered. Here is your quick guide to getting tagged and avoiding entry restrictions in the capital.
Authorities now require the M-Tag for every four-wheeled vehicle entering or moving within Islamabad. This move aims to boost city security and automate traffic flow through digital monitoring.
If you already use an M-Tag for motorways, you are all set. The same tag works for Islamabad entry points. If not, you have until January 15, 2026, to comply. Starting January 16, automated readers will identify untagged vehicles, potentially leading to fines or entry denial.
Quick Registration Guide
The process is simple and takes only a few minutes if you have your paperwork ready. You must bring your vehicle physically to the center so staff can install the RFID tag on your windshield.
- Cost: Rs. 250 (covers the tag and registration).
- Time: 10–15 minutes (excluding queue time).
- Validity: Permanent (as long as the tag remains functional).
M-TAG Required Documents
You only need two original documents to complete the process. No photocopies or complex forms are necessary:
- Original CNIC of the vehicle owner.
- Original Vehicle Registration Book or Smart Card.
M-Tag Registration Center Islamabad Timing
The Islamabad administration and One Network have established 15-16 fixed centers and several mobile units. Most locations operate from 9 AM to 9 PM.
| Location Type | Popular Centers in Islamabad |
| Parks & Recreation | F-9 Park, Kachnar Park (I-8), Lake View Park |
| Major Interchanges | Faizabad, Chungi No. 26, Srinagar Highway |
| Sectors & Markets | Sector G-11, G-13, Gol Market (F-7) |
| Institutional | Excise Office (H-9), Islamabad Club, Tarlai |
| Highways | Islamabad Expressway (Korang), Gulberg Greens |
Authorities have deployed extra staff to these points to handle the final rush. I recommend visiting mid-morning or early afternoon to avoid the evening peaks. You can also call the 1313 helpline for real-time updates on the nearest mobile unit or center timings.
