At least five people drowned in two separate incidents at Karachi’s Hawkes Bay and Manora beaches on Sunday, 15 June 2025, as rescue teams continue search and recovery operations. The incidents occurred during high tide, despite safety restrictions recently placed on beach visits.
According to reports, three individuals were swept away by strong currents at Hawkes Bay while swimming near Hut S-67. Two bodies have been recovered, one person remains missing, and one survivor was pulled from the water in critical condition and shifted to a local hospital for emergency treatment.
In a separate incident at Manora Beach, three more people drowned. One body has been recovered, another person was rescued unconscious and hospitalized, and the search for the third is still ongoing.
Authorities had previously imposed Section 144 from 6 June to 13 June 2025, restricting public access to beaches including Hawkes Bay, Sandspit, and Manora, due to rough sea conditions during the monsoon season. However, visitors were still present at these locations when the drownings occurred.
The Pakistan Life Saving Foundation and local rescue teams continue to warn citizens against swimming during monsoon season in Karachi, as rough waves and unpredictable currents increase drowning risks.
