In a significant move to ensure a smooth flow of traffic, the federal government has announced the construction of two new underpasses in Islamabad. This initiative, chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, is part of a broader plan to enhance the city’s infrastructure and ease traffic congestion.
Location of New Underpasses
The two underpasses will be built at:
- Serena Chowk: A bustling intersection that connects Constitution Avenue, Club Road (Murree Road), and other major roads.
- Srinagar Highway: A critical route that links Islamabad to other cities, including Rawalpindi and Murree.
The underpasses will be located at Serena Chowk and on the Srinagar Highway. These strategic locations chosen due to the heavy traffic flow from various roads, including Constitution Avenue, Club Road (Murree Road), Srinagar Highway, and Attaturk Avenue. The construction of these underpasses expected to significantly reduce congestion during peak hours.
The preliminary designs for the underpasses have completed. The Interior Minister directed for their construction to completed in the shortest possible time. This development part of a series of infrastructure projects planned for the fiscal year 2023-24, with an allocation of Rs. 20 billion.
The announcement of alternate routes during the construction phase eagerly awaited by the city’s residents. This initiative is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving the city’s infrastructure and providing a better commuting experience for its residents.
