In a groundbreaking public-private collaboration, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) is set to construct Pakistan’s largest Information Technology Park (IT Park) in the heart of the nation’s capital. This initiative aligns with the vision of the newly appointed Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, to bolster IT exports across the country.
The CDA Board has approved a sprawling 3.3-acre plot in Sector G-10 for the IT Park’s establishment. The park will span approximately 100,000 square feet, providing a workspace for an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 freelancers.
Located in Islamabad, the IT Park will house a research centre, library, software house, conference rooms, and dedicated spaces for freelancers and startups. Additionally, it will feature an exhibition area for IT products. Private IT firms will fund the construction and rent office spaces, with the CDA retaining ownership of the park.
Earlier this week, PM Shehbaz called for a detailed strategy to escalate the country’s IT exports during a meeting with the IT and Telecom sector. He stressed the importance of harnessing the full potential of IT exports, which are valued in billions of dollars. He also pledged to equip the youth with IT skills and provide the necessary facilities for startups.
PM Shehbaz acknowledged the positive outcomes of previous government’s IT initiatives, noting the resolution of banking-related issues faced by startups, freelancers, and IT companies. He projected that IT exports would exceed three billion dollars this year and emphasized the need for further growth. To this end, he instructed the implementation of all essential legal and policy measures to attract investment in the IT sector and increase its exports.
