Jamaat-e-Islami, one of Pakistan’s prominent political parties, is spearheading a nationwide protest today against the persistent load shedding and soaring electricity bills that have plagued the country.
In a press conference held at Mansoorah, Lahore, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, announced the party’s decision to mobilize protests across various cities. He emphasized that the government’s mismanagement and poor governance have exacerbated the already harsh weather conditions, leading to widespread public distress.
“Despite the Pakistani nation paying an exorbitant 2800 billion rupees in capacity charges, load shedding continues unabated,” stated Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman. He highlighted the severe impact on the middle class, who are struggling under the weight of high electricity bills and additional taxes imposed in the latest budget. The budget targets a staggering 13 trillion rupees in taxes, which Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman believes unfairly burdens the middle class.
Today’s protest comes in response to the unbearable conditions faced by many Pakistanis who endured load shedding of up to 14 hours during the recent Eid celebrations. The frustration has reached a boiling point, prompting Jamaat-e-Islami to call for a day of action.
Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman urged citizens to join the protest and voice their dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs. “We need to stand together to demand better governance and fair treatment for all,” he said.
