Jamshed Dasti (MNA), Member of the National Assembly disqualified by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) after two petitions against him were filed.
The ruling followed a reference taken by the Speaker of the National Assembly in which the validity of Dasti’s educational qualifications was in doubt. His academic certificates later emerged fake by the commission, and this disqualified him as an elected representative.
This move by the ECP underlines that verification of the documents of the candidates is required, and that only genuine persons with good qualifications should get to be elected into a public office. It is the second time that the question of forged credentials is brought up in the political system with this case.
