The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified Jamshed Dasti, a Member of the National Assembly (MNA), following two petitions filed against him.
The decision was made after the ECP accepted a reference submitted by the Speaker of the National Assembly, which questioned the validity of Dasti’s educational qualifications. The commission later found his academic certificates to be fake, resulting in his disqualification as an elected representative.
This action by the ECP highlights the need for proper verification of candidates’ documents and aims to ensure that individuals with valid qualifications are elected to public office. The case has renewed focus on the issue of forged credentials in the political system.
