According to FIA Cyber Crime Reporting Centre Additional Director Shahzad Haider, Farhan Mallick arrested for allegedly producing “several programmes against the security establishment.” The inquiry into Mallick’s content concluded with his formal arrest. His YouTube channel, Raftar, known for discussing political issues and government policies.

No Clear Charges Provided, Says Farhan Mallick’s Wife

Following Farhan Mallick’s arrest, his wife revealed that the FIA did not provide a written charge sheet or any clear explanation for his detention. She stated that Mallick voluntarily gone to the FIA office for a meeting but kept waiting for hours before informed of his arrest. She expressed confusion, emphasizing that Raftar’s content is public and does not involve any classified information.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has strongly condemned the arrest of journalist Farhan Mallick, urging the government to uphold press freedom as guaranteed under Article 19 of the Constitution. The commission has called for his immediate release and a transparent investigation into the matter.

In November 2024, FIA’s Cyber Crime Circle initiated an inquiry into alleged anti-state activities. The agency summoned the owners of Raftar and another platform, Siyasat.pk, for questioning. The notice stated that failure to comply would considered an admission of guilt, raising concerns about restrictions on digital media in Pakistan.
