ISLAMABAD: Justice (r) Dost Muhammad Khan has been appointed the caretaker CM of KP by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Sources inside ECP had announced earlier that a meeting was underway for deciding the name of caretaker CM of KP. He had also confirmed the ECP has received the name of the candidates for the post by both parties.
A spokesperson held a press conference outside Election Commission office in Islamabad to announce name of caretaker CM. He said that the meeting was chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner. He also added that the top level officers of ECP were also present in the meeting.
The spokesperson announced name of Justice (r) Dost Muhammad Khan for the interim post. He said that after much careful consideration we have decided the name of Justice (r) Dost Muhammad Khan for interim CM for KP. He added that Justice (r) Dost Muhammad was more than capable to handle the duties for the position. He added that he was a justice and is owner of a honest and good personality.
Justice (r) Dost Muhammad’s name was suggested by the former opposition along with name of Manzoor Afridi. Manzoor Afridi is a businessman whose brother is a senator on PTI’s Ticket while his nephew is owner of the PSL team Peshawar Zalmi.
The former government recommended bureaucrats Himayatullah Khan and Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi for the post.
Justice (r) Dost Muhammad also served as the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court. He is also one of the members of bench that handed down lifetime disqualification to Pervez Musharraf.
