Karachi and New York to Declared as Sisters Soon

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced that Karachi will be declared a sister city to New York. This decision came during a meeting with the Deputy Speaker of the New York State Assembly, Phil Ramos, and his delegation at the CM House in Karachi.

The high-profile meeting included top officials like Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, Education Minister Sardar Shah, and Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah. Among the 32-member New York delegation were prominent figures such as Assembly Member Alec Brook and members of the American Pakistani Public Affairs Committee (APPAC).

Deputy Speaker Phil Ramos highlighted that the idea of making New York and Karachi sister cities had been in the works since his visit to Sindh in 2023. However, the formal declaration had faced delays. CM Murad assured that the Sindh Assembly would pass the resolution in its next session, currently focused on the budget. He mentioned that once Sindh takes the lead, New York would follow suit.

To expedite the process, CM Murad tasked Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah with drafting the resolution in collaboration with the Deputy Speaker’s team for final approval.

The meeting wasn’t just about forming international ties. It also resulted in plans to upgrade a local nursing college to an institution of international standards with the help of APPAC. Additionally, there were discussions about enhancing education, fostering trade, and organizing student exchanges between Sindh and New York.

As a gesture of goodwill, CM Murad presented traditional Ajrak and Sindhi caps to the New York delegation, symbolizing the cultural bridge being built between Karachi and New York.
