Karachi Central Jail Goes Digital: Online Meetings Now Available for Prisoners and Families

Karachi Central Jail has initiated a transformative overhaul of its operations, introducing an innovative online system to streamline the process of scheduling meetings between inmates and their families. In a significant move, the administration has launched a user-friendly mobile application, enabling families to connect with prisoners seamlessly.

In a recent development, the jail has introduced a state-of-the-art video link system for prisoner court appearances. This technological advancement aims to enhance the efficiency of legal proceedings within the prison.

To facilitate family visits, Central Jail Karachi now offers an online appointment booking system through its specially designed mobile application. This progressive approach not only simplifies the scheduling process but also caters to families from distant locations, eliminating congestion and long waiting times.

The Assistant Superintendent Jail, Misbahuddin, highlighted the collaborative effort behind this initiative, involving the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Agency of the United States. The online appointment project was officially inaugurated by the Sindh Interior Minister, Brig (retd) Haris Nawaz, who expressed gratitude for the much-needed reform. He acknowledged the prolonged waiting periods endured by prisoners’ families, emphasizing the project’s role in alleviating the hardships they face, often waiting for 4 to 5 hours.

In a bid to ensure guidance and verification of meeting attendees, five strategically placed booths near the jail’s main gate have been designated for this purpose. This strategic placement aims to enhance security and streamline the verification process for all scheduled meetings.

The introduction of this advanced online system marks a significant step towards modernizing the prison experience, making it more accessible and convenient for both inmates and their families. As the Sindh Interior Minister inaugurated this transformative project, it underscores a commitment to improving the overall conditions and processes within the Karachi Central Jail.
