Karachi’s cold wave is about to enhance as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts a more intense cold wave in the second week of January 2025. According to Sardar Sarfaraz, the chief meteorologist, temperatures are expected to drop even further, especially in the mornings and nights.
While Karachi is feeling the chill with single-digit temperatures, the cold wave isn’t just hitting the city. Several areas in Balochistan are freezing, with temperatures below zero. The PMD has also hinted at light rain in parts of Balochistan from January 3 to 5, but overall, this winter is expected to have less snowfall and rainfall compared to past years.
For most of the country, the PMD predicts cold and dry weather to continue, especially in hilly areas where mornings and nights will be freezing. Meanwhile, some regions in Kashmir might see light rain or snow during the evening or nighttime hours.
In addition to the Karachi cold wave, smog remains a problem in parts of Punjab and upper Sindh, making mornings and nights foggy and unpleasant. Residents are advised to stay cautious, especially during early hours.
The Karachi cold wave has already brought out sweaters and blankets across the city, with many bracing for even lower temperatures. It’s a reminder that winter this year, though less snowy, is certainly making its presence felt across Pakistan.
