MQM-Pakistan asserts dominance with claimed win on 18 NA seats in Sindh
Karachi Election Result Updates – In a closely contested electoral battle, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) declared victory on Thursday night, asserting its success on 17 to 18 National Assembly seats in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Mirpurkhas.
While MQM-P leaders, Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Mustafa Kamal, expressed gratitude for the support received, rival parties, including Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) and PPP, contested these assertions. JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman labeled MQM-P’s claims as “false” and warned against imposing what he referred to as “rejected people” through state machinery.
Despite MQM-P’s claims, the provincial election commission had not released any Form-47 (provisional result) for any constituency in Karachi or other parts of Sindh until 4 am on Friday. Concerns were raised over the delay in announcing results, with PPP leader Barrister Murtaza Wahab expressing his party’s lead on 12 NA seats in Karachi.
Rival parties accused MQM-P of widespread rigging across Karachi. Examples cited, including MQM convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui allegedly losing at several polling stations in NA-248. The electronic transmission of Form 45 faced delays, leading to incomplete results and concerns regarding the transparency of the electoral process.
