The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued comprehensive guidelines to address the impending heatwave. In response, government hospitals across Karachi have established dedicated heat stroke wards to manage the challenges posed by soaring temperatures.

Starting May 21, temperatures in Karachi are expected to significantly rise, reaching highs between 35 to 40 degrees Celsius during daylight hours. The heatwave is anticipated to intensify from May 23 to May 27, with temperatures forecasted to exceed 45 degrees Celsius.
Hospital Preparations
Hospital administrations and medical personnel in Karachi have been instructed to remain vigilant. Specialized heat stroke wards have been set up in various hospitals across the city to provide immediate care to those affected by the extreme heat.
- Jinnah Hospital: A dedicated ward with 20 beds has been inaugurated, currently admitting an average of 8 to 10 heat-affected patients daily, with 4 to 5 classified as critical cases. The hospital also admits 1 to 2 new patients each day.
- Sindh Institute of Trauma and Orthopedics: This institute has established a specialized ward with 8 beds for initial medical assistance to heatstroke patients. Additionally, an intensive care ward with 10 beds has been arranged for critically ill patients. According to Dr. Liaquat, the Medical Superintendent, the hospital receives about 30 to 35 patients daily exhibiting symptoms like fever, palpitations, and dizziness due to the heat.
