Residents Struggle to Cook Amid Gas Crisis
Cooking at home has become a daunting task for many as residents report extremely low gas pressure or complete shutdowns in various areas of the city. Households in New Karachi, Orangi Town, Golimar, Korangi, PIB Colony, and Gulistan-e-Jauhar are among the worst affected.
A resident of Orangi Town shared, “We search for gas, but it’s nowhere to be found.” This sentiment echoes across the city as citizens struggle to manage their daily lives without adequate gas supply.
High Costs and Alternative Solutions
The ongoing crisis has forced many households to turn to alternatives like LPG cylinders, which come with a hefty price tag. This additional expense is straining already tight household budgets.
Adding to the frustration, residents have expressed concerns about receiving high gas bills despite the unavailability of gas. A citizen from Gulistan-e-Jauhar stated, “We are being charged for gas that we can’t even use. It’s unfair and unacceptable.”
Calls for Immediate Action
Frustrated citizens are urging the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to address the crisis urgently. They demand an uninterrupted supply of gas to alleviate the hardships they are facing.
With the winter season approaching, concerns are growing over how Karachi’s residents will cope if the gas crisis continues. Stakeholders are calling on the authorities to implement sustainable solutions and ensure equitable gas distribution across the city.
