The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heat advisory for Karachi, forecasting high temperatures ranging between 39°C and 41°C on Thursday and Friday. The city will experience hot and dry weather, accompanied by gusty winds, increasing the risk of heat-related health concerns.
Karachi Heatwave Alert: Stay Hydrated and Avoid Sunlight
According to PMD, the intense heat is expected to persist throughout most parts of Sindh, with strong winds likely to add discomfort. Health experts have urged residents to stay indoors during peak hours, stay hydrated, and avoid direct exposure to sunlight.
Rain Forecast for Upper Sindh and Tharparkar
Despite the heatwave, the PMD has forecast isolated rain with thunder and dust storms in parts of upper Sindh, including:
- Ghotki
- Kashmore
- Shikarpur
- Khairpur
Scattered showers are also likely in Badin and Tharparkar, offering some relief in those regions.
Severe Weather Claims Lives Across Pakistan
This extreme heat in Karachi follows a wave of severe weather that recently hit upper and central Pakistan, leading to at least six fatalities, including two children, and injuring over two dozen people. The tragic incidents were primarily caused by strong winds, heavy rainfall, and collapsing structures.
Affected regions include:
- Punjab
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)
- Gilgit-Baltistan (GB)
- Balochistan
Cities Impacted by Weather Disasters
In Muzaffarabad, Multan, Attock, Rawalpindi, and Swabi, collapsing walls and roofs caused fatalities. In KP, windstorms and hailstorms damaged crops, uprooted trees, and created hazardous conditions in several urban areas.
NDMA Warns of More Rain and Landslides
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has cautioned residents in Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa about the possibility of more rain and landslides in the coming days. Travelers and locals are advised to remain alert and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
