Sindh is set to experience a surge in temperatures, with a heatwave expected to grip the region for the next few days. The mercury is predicted to rise 4 to 6°C above the usual today.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reports that continental air is currently dominating most parts of Pakistan. An atmospheric high pressure has triggered heatwave-like conditions, particularly over Punjab and Sindh. The heatwave is projected to amplify from May 23 and persist until May 27.
Cities like Karachi and Hyderabad, and most parts of Sindh are likely to be under the heatwave’s grip from Wednesday. The intensity of the heatwave is expected to escalate on Thursday and continue throughout the week.
Karachi’s temperature is forecasted to hover between 36-38°C on Wednesday and rise to 37-39°C on Thursday. Meanwhile, Hyderabad is predicted to experience a maximum temperature of 42-44°C on Wednesday, which could increase to 43-45°C on Thursday.
In the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather has prevailed in the port city of Karachi, Hyderabad, and most parts of the province. Mohenjo-Daro was the hottest spot in the province, with the temperature peaking at 49°C. The evening’s relative humidity was recorded at 41%.
In Karachi, the maximum temperature touched 36°C, with an evening relative humidity of 76%. In contrast, Hyderabad saw a maximum temperature of 42°C, with the evening’s relative humidity recorded at 57%.
