Intermittent rain in Karachi today continued across multiple areas as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast 4 to 6 spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall for the city.
The PMD confirmed that the monsoon system near Sindh has turned into a deep depression and is passing close to Karachi. The system may bring over 100 millimeters of rainfall with wind speeds up to 60–70 km/h. The weather of Karachi expected to remain unstable, with more showers and thunderstorms likely throughout the day.
Traffic Diversions for Rain in Karachi Today
Tariq Road declared a no-parking zone because of the continuous rainfall, and used as an alternative road in case Shahrah-e-Faisal is hit. Traffic police have deployed diversions to manage congestion. Waterlogging reported on II Chundrigar Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Gulistan-e-Jauhar as rain in Karachi today has affected normal traffic flow.
Urban Flooding Alert for Today’s Karachi Weather
Officials have warned of possible urban flooding in low-lying areas after heavy showers caused flash floods near the Malir River yesterday. In response, dewatering pumps deployed at choke points, and storm drains are getting clear. Before travelling, citizens are recommended to keep up with the current Karachi weather alerts.
Rescue 1122 and disaster management teams are on high alert and control rooms and helplines are operating. Residents advised to limit unnecessary movement and use Tariq Road as an alternative route. The PMD said the weather of Karachi may stay rainy for the next 12–24 hours until the system weakens.
