Karachi Monsoon Rains: PMD Forecasts Thunderstorms Starting June 25

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a detailed advisory regarding the upcoming Karachi monsoon rains. The official forecast indicates that rain, wind, and thunderstorms expected in Karachi and surrounding Sindh regions from June 25 to June 28, with possible gaps in between.

According to PMD, the monsoon system begin nationwide from June 25 due to the influence of moist currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, combined with a strong westerly wave entering northern Pakistan. Karachi is likely to experience light drizzle on June 24, followed by more significant rainfall starting June 25.

From June 24 to 26, Karachi will remain hot and humid with temperatures reaching up to 36°C and sea breeze blowing at 10 km/h. Humidity levels will hover around 75%, and conditions will remain partly cloudy.

From June 27 to June 30, cloudiness is expected to increase with chances of thunderstorms, wind, and rain, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. The PMD has highlighted the risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas of Karachi and Hyderabad between June 26 and June 28 due to intense downpours.

The forecast also warns of possible hazards including strong winds, lightning, damage to weak infrastructure, power outages, and traffic disruptions. Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, stay indoors during thunderstorms, and monitor official updates.
