Sindh Excise & Taxation Department announced on Thursday that it will establish a new office dedicated to issuing premium number plates, following a successful auction that raised substantial funds. This decision was made during a meeting led by Sindh Excise & Taxation Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon in Karachi.
Premium Number Plate Auction (2nd Phase)
Minister Memon also revealed that a second phase of the premium number plate auction is on the horizon, building on the success of the first phase. The initial auction, held on June 30, marked the province’s first-ever event of its kind and generated a staggering Rs675.4 million from the sale of 40 premium plates. The highest bid was for plate number 1, fetching Rs100 million, while other notable sales included Rs53 million for plate number 5, Rs46 million for plate number 7, Rs41 million for plate number 8, and Rs40 million for plate number 9.
Successful bidders were awarded ownership certificates for their premium plates, and Minister Memon announced that the proceeds from this auction will be used for rehabilitating victims of the devastating 2022 floods in Sindh, a noble cause that underscores the department’s commitment to the community.
To enhance customer convenience, the Sindh Excise & Taxation Department has also decided to offer a home delivery service for number plates. A new motor registration office will be set up in Karachi’s South District, providing evening services to accommodate busy schedules. Minister Memon emphasized the need to simplify the vehicle registration process and expressed his vision to manage the department with a corporate approach, aiming for efficiency and ease for the public.
