Karachi Rain Exposed Failed K-Electric System: City Spends Night Without Electricity

Karachi’s latest weather conditions led to widespread power outages as rain caused 350 K-Electric feeders to trip late last night. Large sections of the city faced prolonged electricity suspensions during severe heat and humidity, leaving residents without relief.

According to K-Electric, one feeder generally supplies electricity to 700 transformers, with each transformer serving 200 to 400 connections. Despite the disruption, K-Electric claims that the power distribution system remains stable, with 1,750 out of 2,100 feeders continuing to provide uninterrupted power to parts of Karachi.

The K-Electric spokesperson stated that power restoration work is underway in the rain-affected areas. Field teams have been deployed, and clearance has been received to resume supply in several localities. Areas where electricity restored include Gulshan-e-Maymar Sectors S and T, Gulshan-e-Hadeed Phase 2, Main Super Highway, PCSIR, Karachi University Society, and Bilawal Jokhio Goth.

Other restored locations are Old Muzaffarabad Landhi, Rasheed Village, Gulistan-e-Jauhar Blocks 9, 11, 12, and 13, Shalimar Pride, and North View Apartments.

As per safety protocols, electricity supply remains suspended in low-lying areas and places with encroachments or illegal connections (kundas) to prevent hazards during the ongoing weather conditions.

The power utility urges citizens to stay cautious and report emergencies through official helplines as Karachi braces for further impact of monsoon weather.
