Karachi Rain Update: Will Karachi Get Relief from Extreme Heat Soon?

Karachi is bracing for heavy rains as the monsoon season begins. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted rain for Karachi, as well as Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Eastern Balochistan may also experience showers. This weather change brings hope of relief from the intense heat in Karachi, a city currently enduring extremely high temperatures.

In its latest advisory, the PMD stated that Karachi, along with Thatta, Sajawal, Hyderabad, Dadu, Badin, Tharparkar, Umarkot, Mithi, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, and Nawabshah, could see rain this evening or night. The expected rainfall is anticipated to provide much-needed respite from the scorching weather.

However, the rainy season also brings risks. The PMD has issued a flooding alert for the rivers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Mount Sulaiman. Monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are moving into the upper and central parts of the country, and a westerly wave is expected to impact these areas starting tonight.

Karachi residents are eagerly awaiting the rain, hoping it will bring cool relief to the sweltering city. The anticipated downpour is not just about cooling temperatures but also about easing the daily challenges posed by the extreme heat. As the monsoon rains approach, the city’s inhabitants prepare for a change in weather that promises both relief and caution.
