Karachi is now a hub of protests and security checks as authorities enforce Section 144 due to ongoing demonstrations by various groups and political parties. Several key roads, especially those leading to the Red Zone, have been closed to maintain control.
Roads Closed in Karachi:
Road Name | Status / Diversion |
---|---|
FTC Bridge (Shahrah-e-Faisal) | Two lanes open only |
Aiwan-e-Sadr Road | Closed in both directions |
Khajoor Chowk to PIDC Chowk | Traffic diverted |
Fawara Chowk to Zainab Market | Traffic diverted |
Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road (PIDC to Ziauddin Signal) | One lane open in each direction |
M.T. Khan Road (Sultanabad to PIDC) | Closed, redirected to Mai Kolachi via Boat Basin |
The traffic situation is a mess. Barriers on the FTC Bridge along Shahrah-e-Faisal limit cars to two lanes, worsening the congestion. Aiwan-e-Sadr Road is entirely closed in both directions. Drivers heading downtown face diversions: those coming from Khajoor Chowk are rerouted to PIDC Chowk, while those at Fawara Chowk must go through Zainab Market.
Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road has just one lane open in each direction from PIDC Chowk to Ziauddin Signal. M.T. Khan Road is closed from Sultanabad Check Post to PIDC, with traffic rerouted to Mai Kolachi via Boat Basin.
Amid the chaos, Haleem Adil Sheikh criticized the misuse of Section 144. He claimed PPP held rallies while PTI was blocked from peaceful protests. “Targeting us with the police is unfair,” he said, insisting that peaceful protests are a democratic right. He urged the Sindh government to keep politics out of policing and ensure fair treatment for all parties.
