Karachi Traffic Police have started using e challan robots under the city’s digital traffic enforcement system. DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah said the robots will scan vehicles for parking and traffic violations. Offenders will receive an e challan in Karachi automatically.
The robots will work in main roads such as Saddar and Tariq Road with the speed of 20 km/h. Any vehicle that breaches the rules of parking or traffic will receive an e-challan immediately as it passes through the scanning of the robots. This will be an addition to camera-based and manual enforcement by introducing a third mode of issuing e-challans in Karachi.
Starting next month, the traffic department will install no parking and no two-lane boards on the major roads. Violators will no longer have the option of manual enforcement since E challan Karachi will ensure that traffic enforcement is automated and quicker.
The results of the system are already visible: thousands of violations such as over-speeding, violations with seat belt, violations of helmet and red-light running were recorded during pilot runs. Any vehicles that break the traffic regulations will get notices digitally, and the processing of fines will be shortened.
DIG Traffic pointed out that this system is meant to enhance compliance and accountability in Karachi roads. In Karachi, the citizens also have access to issued e challans using official apps and online portals to track the issued e challans.
