Karachi Set to Welcome 30 New Public Transport Buses on December 31st

In a promising turn of events, Karachi is gearing up for a major transportation overhaul as the bureaucratic hurdles delaying the release of 30 imported public buses and seven snorkels seem to be finally untangling. The transport secretary, in an optimistic announcement, has assured that these vehicles, previously stalled at the Karachi Port and imported during the tenure of former Sindh government officials, will be hitting the city streets by December 31.

Expressing concern over the deteriorating condition of the city’s roads, the caretaker chief minister of Sindh has issued a directive for immediate repairs to ensure a smooth route for the impending influx of buses dedicated to public transport. The move aims to enhance the overall commuting experience for the citizens of Karachi.

Adding a significant layer to this development, the Sindh Accountant General (AG) Office has stepped in by releasing funds earmarked for the clearance of Chinese-imported buses. This financial injection is poised to expand the People’s Bus Service fleet in Karachi, providing much-needed relief to the city’s commuters.

The imported buses, initially procured during the former Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government’s tenure, were caught in a bureaucratic quagmire at the Karachi Port. However, the intervention of Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar has expedited the process, with funds now allocated for the swift release of these vehicles.

This strategic move not only addresses the long-standing issue of stalled buses but also signals a positive shift in the city’s transportation landscape. The increased fleet promises to alleviate the burden on existing public transportation systems, fostering a more efficient and seamless commuting experience for the residents of Karachi.
