Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted even chillier days ahead. According to the PMD’s chief meteorologist, Sardar Sarfaraz, temperatures are expected to dip further during the second week of January 2025, with Karachi also bracing for colder weather.
Talking about the national outlook, Sarfaraz mentioned that parts of Balochistan might experience light rain from January 3 to 5. However, this winter season is likely to bring less snowfall and rain compared to previous years, adding to the dry conditions in many regions.
Karachi has already seen temperatures dropping to single digits multiple times this month, but the chill is not limited to the metropolis. Across Balochistan, freezing temperatures are becoming common, with many areas recording sub-zero readings.
The PMD forecasts mainly cold and dry weather across most of the country on Thursday, with very cold conditions in hilly areas during mornings and nights. Regions like Kashmir and nearby hilly areas may see light rain or snow in the evening or nighttime.
Smog remains a concern in parts of Punjab and upper Sindh, particularly in the morning and night hours. Frosty mornings are also expected in Islamabad, Pothohar, and some parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa tomorrow.
In the past 24 hours, temperatures plunged to extreme lows: Skardu reported -11°C, Astore and Gupis -8°C, Gilgit -7°C, while Quetta and Ziarat recorded -6°C.
With the cold wave intensifying, people are advised to stay prepared for harsher weather in the days to come.
