Karachi Water Supply Suspended Today
The Karachi Water Corporation has declared that there will be a temporary suspension of water supply in Karachi because of maintenance on the Hub Canal which will be carried out during October 28 and 29. The authorities state that the two days shutdown will affect the West, the Keamari, and Central districts because WAPDA does check-up and repair work between Hub Dam and the X-Regulator.
A spokesperson confirmed that the Karachi water supply suspended today is part of planned maintenance aimed at improving long-term efficiency in the city’s distribution network. Citizens have been advised to store water in advance and use available resources cautiously during the 48-hour suspension.
The spokesperson added that the project director of Hub Dam had officially informed the utility about the planned closure, which will temporarily halt the Karachi water supply to the affected areas.
Ongoing Karachi Water Supply Issues
Separate Karachi repairs are in progress in the meantime on the 11K line which is connected to the North East Pumping Station, where a 48-inch main line was leaking. This has caused closure of three water pumps serving the city together with one pump at the Dhabeji Pumping Station aggravating the current Karachi water supply crisis.
Schemes such as Scheme 33, Safora, North Nazimabad, Gulberg, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and Federal B. Area among others are already short of them. Limited supply has also interfered with the water tanker service.
Officials assured that repair work is expected to be completed within ten hours, after which the water supply in Karachi will gradually return to normal.
