Karachi weather turned unusually cold, as a nationwide cold wave pushed temperatures into single digits. The drop surprised many residents. Dry winds and clear skies added to the chill, and forecasters warned that cold nights will continue over the next few days.
On January 9, the city recorded a minimum temperature close to 8–9°C, placing it firmly in single digits. For a coastal city, this stands out.
The cold settled in overnight. Early morning hours felt colder due to steady dry winds. Many residents reported needing extra layers, especially before dawn.
Meteorologists point to a strong continental air flow moving in from inland regions. These cold and dry winds lowered night temperatures across Sindh, including Karachi. Clear skies allowed heat to escape faster at night, which made the chill stronger.
Forecasts suggest the cold spell will continue for several days. Nights and early mornings will remain colder than normal. Daytime temperatures may feel comfortable, but evenings will cool quickly.
Health experts advise caution. People sensitive to cold, especially children and the elderly, should limit early morning exposure.
This cold wave covers most of Pakistan. Quetta dropped to minus 4°C. Peshawar recorded 4°C, Islamabad 5°C, and Lahore 7°C. Karachi remains warmer by comparison, but single digits here remain rare.
