Karachi weather is taking a sharp turn as icy winds from the north grip the city. The Pakistan Meteorological Department warns of a significant temperature drop. Residents should prepare for persistent chilly conditions during the day as strong winds maintain a cold spell across the metropolitan area.
Chilly Winds Grip Karachi
Karachi residents are waking up to a noticeable chill today. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed that cold winds have already entered the city. This shift in Karachi weather means the intensity of the cold will likely increase over the next few days.
The Met Office recorded a minimum temperature of 12°C this morning. Experts predict that freezing winds will soon hit the coastal city. These “Siberian winds” typically cause a sharp drop in mercury, making daytime activities feel much colder than usual.
Freezing Conditions in Northern Pakistan
As Karachi is getting ready to the cold, the north is experiencing severe winter. A lake in the Neelam Valley of Kashmir has frozen stiff as the cold in the regions has dropped to -10degC. This cold wave is sweeping southwards, and it is having a direct effect on the weather patterns and season forecast of Karachi.
Gilgit-Baltistan is still under heavy snowfall. Regions such as Ghizer, Chilas, and Diamer record the presence of high levels of snow. Nanga Parbat and Babusar Top peaks are still covered with white causing cold waves to the Sindh plains.
These cold spells are usually accompanied by strong and dusty winds in Karachi. The government recommends people to wear in layers and keep hydrated. Since Karachi weather is still unpredictable, the Met Office will keep on checking wind speeds and give reports to the general population on a daily basis.
