In a bid to enhance revenue collection and streamline the management of Karachi’s assets, Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has taken decisive action. During a pivotal meeting, Mayor Wahab directed the Land Department to swiftly conduct a comprehensive survey of KMC-owned properties situated at key locations such as Shahrah e Faisal, I.I Chandrigar Road, University Road, and Sindhi Muslim Society.
This directive came as part of Mayor Wahab’s overarching strategy to bolster revenue generation from KMC assets. He emphasized the importance of the recovery departments promptly implementing these instructions within a strict 30-day timeframe.
Present at this critical meeting were notable figures including Mayor Karachi’s spokesperson for Political Affairs, Karamullah Waqasi, Municipal Commissioner Syed Afzal Zaidi, Finance Advisor Ghulam Murtaza Bhutto, as well as the heads of various revenue departments and other key officers.
One of the immediate actions mandated was for PD Orangi to take possession of 2600 yards of KMC-owned land within the stipulated 30 days. To ensure transparency and accountability, Mayor Wahab emphasized the use of QR codes for all documents related to land management, including those from the Land Department, Katchi Abadi, PD Orangi, and the State Department.
Furthermore, Mayor Karachi issued a challenge for the State Department to recover Rs 100 million from KMC markets and parking facilities situated under bridges within the same 30-day window. Simultaneously, Mayor Wahab stressed the importance of promptly securing possession of all parking sites within this timeframe.
Additionally, he highlighted the need to evaluate revenue generated from BTS mobile towers located across the city within a one-month period. He also made it clear that no vehicles should be parked on the PIDC road, emphasizing the importance of efficient traffic management.
Mayor Wahab also called for a thorough review of revenue generation from sports stadiums leased to other institutions, emphasizing the need to ensure that the city receives its fair share of revenue from these assets.
