In a progressive move, the Sindh government has announced a two-month fare exemption for women on Karachi’s Pink Bus Service. The announcement was made by Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon at a recent ceremony marking the inclusion of a new fleet of buses.
The decision came in response to a request from PPP leader Faryal Talpur, who advocated for fare-free travel on the Pink Bus Service. The initiative aligns with the vision of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, aiming to provide quality transport facilities to women in the form of a luxury bus service.
The Sindh government has been proactive in enhancing the Pink People’s Bus Service in Karachi. Last week, two new routes were introduced, expanding the service beyond its initial route from Model Colony Malir to Tower via Shahrah-e-Faisal.
The new route starts from Numaish Chowrangi and passes through M.A Jinnah Road, Zaibunissa Street, Metropol, Do Talwar, Teen Talwar, Mazar e Abdullah Shah Ghazi, Dolmen Mall, and ends at the Seaview Clock Tower.
In addition to the enhancements in Karachi, the government launched a women-only People’s Bus Service in Mirpurkhas last month, further demonstrating its commitment to improving public transport for women.
In summary, the Sindh government’s efforts to provide fare-free, quality transport for women through the Pink Bus Service are a significant step towards gender equality and improved public services.
