Renowned historian, writer, and researcher from Sindh, Gul Hassan Kalmati, passed away on Wednesday after battling liver cancer. Kalmati was known for his extensive research work on the provincial capital of Karachi, and he authored several historical books in Sindhi, Urdu, and English.
Born on July 5, 1957, in Haji Arzi Baloch Village, Gadap, District Malir, Karachi, Kalmati acquired a B.A degree from S.M. Arts College Karachi in 1978. He further pursued his education and earned a Master’s Degree in Journalism and a Master’s Degree in Sindhi Literature from the University of Karachi.
Kalmati’s most famous book, “Karachi Sindh ji Marai,” modernized the history of Karachi and established him as an expert in his field. Despite his deteriorating health, Kalmati continued to contribute to the field of history until his passing.
Kalmati’s funeral prayers were held on the same day of his passing at Haji Tahi Goth, Gadap, Malir. The news of his passing has deeply saddened the academic and literary community in Sindh.
