Temperature Drops to 11°C, Further Decline Expected
Karachi is experiencing a significant cold wave, with temperatures recorded at 11°C on Monday. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the weather will remain dry and clear over the next 24 hours, with cold mornings and nights expected to persist.

The PMD has predicted that Karachi’s minimum temperature could drop to 10°C, while the maximum temperature is expected to reach 30°C during the day.
“Dry weather and cold wave conditions are expected in most districts of Sindh. Shallow fog (in patches) is likely to persist in Sukkur, Kashmore, Jacobabad, and nearby areas during morning hours,” the PMD stated in its weather advisory.
Cold Wave to Persist Across Pakistan
A cold wave is expected to affect most parts of the country from December 8 to December 14. The PMD forecasts a significant drop in day and night temperatures across various regions:
- Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir: Daytime temperatures may fall 4-6°C below normal.
- Balochistan and Sindh: Daytime temperatures could drop 5-7°C below normal.
Additionally, cold gusty winds are likely to affect parts of Sindh, Balochistan, and Punjab. Frost is also expected to form over plains in several regions during this cold spell.
Rain and Snowfall Predictions
The PMD has also forecast moderate rain-wind/thunderstorms, accompanied by snowfall over the hills in northern and mountainous regions. Affected areas include:
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Buner, Shangla, Manshera, Abbottabad, and Kohistan.
- Gilgit-Baltistan: Astore, Ghizer, Gilgit, Hunza, and Skardu.
- Azad Jammu and Kashmir: Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Kotli, Haveli, and Bagh.
These conditions are expected to persist from the night of December 7 to December 11, with occasional breaks.

Residents of Karachi and other affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions to stay warm and protect themselves from the cold wave. Motorists in fog-affected areas are urged to exercise caution due to reduced visibility during morning hours.
