Lahore banned 30 years older cars to prevent pollution

Environment protection minister Raja Basharat proposed an issue at an Environment Protection Council meeting. During the meeting, the council pledged to make Punjab’s environmental policy conform to international standards.

It was also one of the specific suggestions to ban cars older than 30 years in Lahore from October to December of next year. Car-free zones and days in Lahore also addressed during the meeting. Meanwhile, it was suggested that trees with large leaves be planted.

On this situation, Raja Basharat stated that while the smog is lower this year compared to the same period last year, the disaster may worsen in the coming years.

It is important to note that Lahore is one of the most polluted cities in the world. According to IQAir, a global environmental think tank, the city’s air quality was over 350. In the past few years, smog has suddenly appeared as a disaster, posing a serious risk to the health of the city’s residents. Health experts, on the other hand, have tried to persuade people to take precautionary steps to avoid environmental disasters.

Previously, the Lahore High Court expressed grave concern about escalating health threats and the provincial administration’s failure to address the current crisis. According to Justice Shahid, the situation is getting worse by the day, and if it continues, the school will have to close for at least three days.
