Karachi is facing a tough situation as protests by two religious groups, Majlis-e-Wahdatul-Muslimeen (MWM) and Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), have turned the city into a gridlock. Karachiites are struggling with blocked roads, endless traffic jams, and growing frustration.
The protests started with MWM demonstrating against the Kurram issue, with sit-ins at 10 locations across Karachi for the past week. This has already disrupted daily life, but the situation worsened when ASWJ announced sit-ins at over 60 spots in Karachi.
Key Protest Locations:
- Liaquatabad
- Nazimabad
- Sakhi Hasan Mobile Market
- Sharah-e-Faisal
- Gulshan Chowrangi
- Sohrab Goth
- Lasbela Chowk
- Karimabad
- Civic Centre
- Mosmayat Chowk
- Hydari Market
- Nagan Chowrangi
- 4K Chowrangi
- Baloch Colony
- Akhtar Colony
Karachi Additional Inspector General (AIG), Javed Alam Odho, earlier claimed the protests would end before Maghrib but quickly backtracked. A police spokesperson clarified that no such orders to end the protests were issued. This back-and-forth has added to the confusion and frustration for Karachi residents.
ASWJ leaders gave the Sindh government a 24-hour ultimatum to meet their demands or face protests starting Tuesday afternoon. Meanwhile, MWM’s ongoing sit-ins have caused severe traffic congestion and long queues, making commuting a nightmare.
Provincial authorities have warned the protesters, urging them to end the chaos, but tensions remain high. With blocked roads and increasing hardships, Karachiites are left wondering when life will return to normal.
The situation has now become a major test for law enforcement and the Sindh government, as citizens continue to endure the brunt of these protests.
