Major transport bodies in Pakistan have announced a transport strike in Pakistan on 19 Dec to protest the new traffic fine and challan system. Bus services, goods transport, markets, and supply chains are expected to halt nationwide. Authorities warn of widespread disruption if the government does not address the unions’ demands.
Nationwide Transport Strike in Pakistan on 19 Dec to Halt Goods and Passenger Movement
The All Pakistan Transport Federation and associated unions have declared a complete transport strike in Pakistan on 19 Dec. The protest includes intercity, inter-district, goods transport, and pickup-and-drop services.
Transport leaders warned that on December 19, movement from Khyber to Karachi will stop. Bus routes, wagon services, rail transport, factories, markets, petrol pumps, and supply chains are expected to face severe disruption. Schools, government offices, and businesses could also be affected.
Union representatives — Asif Khan, Lala Suhail, and Tariq Khan — said the government has not fulfilled earlier promises. Heavy fines, vehicle impoundments, and harassment have made operations impossible. They added the strike will continue until the traffic fine and challan system is withdrawn.
Earlier, a transport strike in Pakistan affected Punjab, including Lahore, after private transporters halted services against the Traffic Ordinance 2025. Intercity and intracity buses stopped, terminals and booking offices were closed, and goods delivery to other cities faced delays.
The RTA claimed that some intercity routes and metro/e-bus services remained operational. Secretary Asad Shirazi said D-class stands and city routes were still functioning despite the shutdown.
The unions warned, “On December 19, Pakistan will be shut — completely shut.” They stressed that government inaction could cause widespread disruption for commuters, businesses, and supply chains.
The transport strike in Pakistan on 19 Dec is shaping up to be the largest protest against the new traffic policies, highlighting rising tension between authorities and transport operators.
