Lahore’s Liberty Chowk now hosts a massive 42-foot-tall Christmas tree. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif ordered the installation to celebrate plurality and love. The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) completed the project this week. It stands as a vibrant landmark in the heart of Gulberg.
CM Maryam Nawaz shared the news on X. She stated the tree proves minorities are safe and valued in Punjab. This gesture highlights Christians as an integral part of the social fabric. The government aims to show the world a message of religious freedom.
The tree is part of a 12-day provincial celebration. Festivities began on December 14 with a 7-kilometer interfaith rally. The procession marched from Sacred Heart Cathedral to Liberty Roundabout. It was the first government-sponsored event of its kind in Punjab’s history.
The 2025 holiday season includes practical support. The government increased the Minority Affairs budget by 300%. Authorities also launched the “Minority Card.” This card provides quarterly financial aid and festival bonuses to low-income families. Over 50,000 families currently benefit from this scheme.
Security remains a top priority. Over 30,000 personnel guard churches and public festive sites. A “Christmas Cleaning Plan” also deployed 17,000 workers to beautify Christian colonies. These efforts reflect a shift toward active public dignity for all citizens.
