Maryam Nawaz IT City Promotion on New York’s Times Square Faces Backlash in Pakistan

The Punjab government’s Nawaz Sharif IT City project has captured attention on a global scale, with its advertisement now displayed in New York City’s Times Square. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz proudly shared this milestone on X, showcasing the ad with the tagline, “Opening doors for the IT revolution in Punjab,” featuring her image prominently.

Maryam Nawaz’s post on X celebrated the achievement, saying, “Nawaz Sharif on the Times Square screen, IT City Punjab’s unparalleled progress, Alhamdulillah!” However, rather than receiving praise, the post sparked frustration among users. They voiced their dissatisfaction over ongoing internet problems in the country, which have plagued social media and messaging services for nearly a week.

The disruption has led to slow or unavailable internet services nationwide, affecting platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. The freelancing platform Fiverr has also been impacted, with the status of Pakistani freelancers becoming inaccessible due to these internet issues.

This situation highlights the ongoing struggle with internet connectivity in Pakistan, contrasting sharply with the high-profile promotion of IT City Punjab on an international stage.
