Metro Bus Service Islamabad Closed Due to Ongoing Protest in The Area

In Islamabad, a protest has led to the suspension of Metro Bus Services, causing inconvenience to daily commuters. The services, which usually operate between Saddar Station and Faiz Ahmed Faiz Station, have been temporarily halted on the request of Islamabad DC, following the unfortunate demise of two workers involved in the protest.

The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metrobus, a 83.6 km (51.9 mi) bus rapid transit system, is a lifeline for the Islamabad–Rawalpindi metropolitan area. It boasts four distinct routes – Red, Orange, Blue, and Green Lines, each serving a unique purpose and route.

The Red and Orange Lines, known for their dedicated lanes and well-constructed stations, offer a seamless commute experience. On the other hand, the Blue and Green Lines share their routes with regular traffic on the Islamabad Expressway and Srinagar Highway, respectively.

The Metrobus network’s journey began with the inauguration of the Red Line on 4 June 2015. This line, stretching 22.5 kilometers, connects Pak Secretariat in Islamabad to Saddar in Rawalpindi. Following this, the Orange Line was launched on 18 April 2022, covering a distance of 25.6 kilometers between the Peshawar Morr Interchange and the Islamabad International Airport. The network expanded further with the addition of the Green and Blue Lines on 7 July 2022.

As the city awaits the resumption of the Metro Bus Services, the impact of the Save Gaza March on the city’s public transportation system underscores the importance of these services in the daily lives of the residents.
