Millennium Mall fire in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Karachi, caused significant damage as over 250 shops completely destroyed on the third and fourth floors of the building. The fire erupted on the rooftop and quickly spread to the upper floors, which primarily housed garment outlets.
Emergency response teams from the fire brigade and Rescue 1122 arrived at the scene and began firefighting efforts. A total of 11 fire trucks and 2 snorkels were deployed in the operation. Firefighters faced challenges due to a shortage of water, prompting an emergency request to the Water and Sewerage Corporation. In response, water tankers were dispatched, and emergency was declared at the NEPA hydrant to ensure continuous supply.
Amid the destruction, 60 copies of the Quran located inside a mosque on the third floor remained safe, with only minor external damage. The mosque was surrounded by nearly 100 shops, all of which were destroyed. Damage assessment is ongoing.
Officials stated that the cause of the Millennium Mall fire is yet to be determined. It is still unclear whether the mall had a functioning fire safety system. A complete safety audit will be conducted after the fire is extinguished.
