The car of a private TV channel anchor, missing since the Babusar flood in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer district, was found in debris during an ongoing search operation.
According to Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesperson Faizullah Firaq, the car was recovered on Babusar Highway. No individual was found inside the vehicle. Around 15 tourists were reportedly swept away in the flash floods. Search efforts for the missing family and other tourists are still ongoing.
The Babusar-Naran Highway, which was damaged by the flood, has been reopened for one-way traffic after a week. Authorities have advised travelers to remain cautious and avoid non-essential travel. The Thak stream flood in Chilas had earlier resulted in 10 confirmed deaths.
Officials also confirmed that another family went missing in the Babusar flood. The missing persons include Liaqat, his wife Shabana, and their four children. Shabana Liaqat is an anchor on a private TV channel. The channel management contacted authorities after losing contact.
The anchor’s handbag, containing her national identity card, was found by a local volunteer near Thak Babusar. Rescue teams, police, district administration, disaster management units, sniffer dogs, and drones are being used in the search operation.
