Mobile Services to Remain Suspended in Islamabad on 24 November Amid PTI Protest

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has confirmed that mobile phone services in Islamabad are likely to remain suspended during the visit of the Belarusian President on November 25, 2024. The suspension is part of the government’s strict security measures to safeguard high-profile guests, as the city faces additional challenges due to potential PTI protests.

Belarus Delegation and President’s Visit

A high-level delegation from Belarus, including 10 ministers, will arrive in Pakistan on November 24, 2024, followed by a three-day visit by the Belarusian President starting on November 25, 2024. The government is implementing heightened security protocols for these significant diplomatic engagements.

PTI Protest Sparks Additional Concerns

Adding to the security challenges, PTI has announced plans for protests during this period. Minister Naqvi criticized the timing, stating, “Every critical moment sees PTI announcing protests. The public must decide what agenda they are pursuing.” He emphasized that no one would be allowed to march on Islamabad, urging PTI to restrict their protests to their own districts and provinces.

Islamabad Mobile Services Suspended on 24 November

To ensure the safety of international dignitaries, containers will be placed in key areas, and mobile phone services are expected to remain suspended in sensitive zones. Naqvi stated that the government is prioritizing the safety of its guests while also safeguarding its citizens and infrastructure. A final decision on the suspension of mobile services will be made today.

Public Cooperation Requested

Naqvi urged citizens to cooperate with the authorities during these high-security days. He assured that all necessary arrangements are in place to manage the dual challenge of diplomatic engagements and potential public demonstrations.

The capital is bracing for a busy and potentially tense few days as the government prepares to navigate both international obligations and domestic political activity.
