Mohsin Naqvi Orders Nationwide Crackdown on Hawala Hundi, Fake Medicines, and Beggar Mafia

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Karachi Zone to launch an aggressive and indiscriminate crackdown on hawala hundi networks, agents sending beggars abroad, fake medicine manufacturers, and violators of currency export limits.

During a high-level meeting at FIA Karachi, Naqvi instructed that powerful individuals involved in illegal hawala hundi transactions immediately targeted, and action taken without external pressure. He emphasized enforcement against money laundering networks operating under the guise of informal remittance channels.

The minister also ordered arrests of beggars deported from foreign countries and action against the agent mafia involved in sending Pakistani beggars overseas. He said the beggar deportation issue tarnishing Pakistan’s international image and must be controlled by arresting agents with support from other provinces.

Naqvi further instructed the FIA to act firmly against individuals and networks involved in the fake medicine business, calling for their immediate imprisonment and shutdown of counterfeit pharmaceutical operations. He stated that the trade in counterfeit drugs must be stopped to protect public health and law enforcement credibility.

A clear directive also issued regarding non-custom paid products, with orders to intensify raids and confiscations. Additionally, the Interior Minister ordered strict legal action against passengers traveling abroad with more than USD 5,000 in cash, directing FIA officers to ensure enforcement of the currency limit regulation at all airports.

Director FIA Karachi Zone Nauman Siddique briefed the minister on the department’s ongoing operations, challenges, and performance. The meeting also attended by FIA South Additional Director General Mujahid Akbar Khan, Deputy Directors of Anti-Money Laundering, Immigration, and Anti-Corruption, as well as all Assistant Directors from FIA South.
