Money Laundering Case: FIA tracked Rs33 billion trail


Karachi: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed that they tracked down the huge amount trail in money laundering case.

FIA elaborated that they traced Rs 33 billion trail in money laundering case. However, it is a major headway in the ongoing probe into the high profile case.

According to sources, FIA obtained details related to Rs33 billion out of Rs35 billion transferred through different fake bank accounts. FIA conducted raids at sugar mills owned by Omni Group. However, FIA confiscated computer hard disks, virtual storage device, video recorders, and other related items.

Yesterday, Asif Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur appeared before the FIA and recorded their statements in money laundering case. Najaf Mirza, FIA Additional DG, chaired a meeting at Islamabad yesterday and questioned both PPP leaders.

Asif Zardari and Faryal Talpoor probed for about 35 minutes and according to sources, Zardari did not answer some questions. However, he elaborated media after probing that the money laundering case was created against him in Nawaz Sharif’s tenure.

Money Laundering Case Background

The FIA registered a case in Karachi week ago over money laundering scam worth Rs35 billion. It detained Hussain Lawai, said to be a close friend of Asif Ali Zardari. However, Investigative authorities keep up that 32 individuals, including Hussain Lawai, are under interrogation for laundering billions of rupees through fake accounts.
