The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has confirmed that the monsoon season in Punjab has officially ended. According to Director General Irfan Ali Kathia, there is no forecast of further rain in the coming week, and water levels in flood-affected areas are now receding.
The PDMA reported that the floods during this year’s Punjab monsoon have affected 4,755 villages across 28 districts. So far, 123 deaths have been confirmed, while more than 4.5 million people have been impacted.
Punjab Flood Affected Areas and River Flow
Floodwater from the Chenab River, stretching from Marala to Panjnad, has now returned to normal flow. The DG PDMA stated that embankments remained intact and water levels are decreasing. The Punjab flood affected areas included Alipur, Multan, and Jalalpur, which were among the worst hit.
According to official figures, around 2.482 million acres of agricultural land were affected. Rice crops suffered a loss of nearly 15%, while sugarcane crops were reduced by 22%. The PDMA highlighted that livestock protection and fodder supplies were managed by the agriculture department during the emergency.
Reliefs and health services have been made available by way of 425 relief camps established in the affected areas. Different departments were able to coordinate which facilitated rescue and recovery operations. The government confirmed that rehabilitative activities of the Punjab flood affected regions are underway at this moment.
With the official closure of the Punjab monsoon season 2025, authorities have shifted focus to recovery and rebuilding. The PDMA has indicated that the threat of flooding has been mitigated, but it will need to put in the long-term effort to rebuild the agricultural productivity and infrastructure in the flood-affected districts.
