Monsoon Season in Pakistan Turns Deadly: 32 Deaths Reported Amid Heavy Rains, Flash Floods

At least 32 people have died as the monsoon season in Pakistan 2025 triggered flash floods, roof collapses, electrocution incidents, and landslides. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reports casualties nationwide, highlighting the country’s continued vulnerability despite repeated climate warnings. The government’s disaster preparedness and response measures are questioned as the infrastructure fails to protect lives.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 19 deaths reported in the past 36 hours due to landslides and torrential rains, including 8 children. The Swat flash flooding saw the highest toll with 13 fatalities. Over 50 houses partially damaged, and many were destroyed, reflecting weak implementation of safety standards.

In Punjab, at least 13 people, mostly children, died as walls and roofs collapsed during rain. The lack of preemptive safety measures and weak housing structures remain unaddressed despite previous disasters.

In Karachi, three people died due to electrocution during rains. A 17-year-old in Korangi, a 22-year-old mechanic in Golimar, and a 40-year-old man in New Karachi lost their lives. A wall collapse in Manzoor Colony killed a father and his two-year-old son, while a roof collapse in Lyari claimed a father and his three-year-old daughter. Five more were injured.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department warns of continued heavy rains and flash flood threats until Tuesday. Climate experts stress that Pakistan, among the countries most affected by climate change, faces increasingly severe weather events annually, but government preparedness remains inadequate.

Earlier in May 2025, 32 people died in similar storms. Pakistan’s disaster management system, urban planning, and climate resilience strategies are under criticism as deaths from predictable monsoon hazards continue unchecked.
