Dense fog has led to the closure of key motorways in Punjab, causing significant disruptions for travelers. The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) have shut down the M-3, M-5, and M-11 motorways due to severely reduced visibility.
The M-3 motorway, which links Lahore to Jaranwala, is currently closed, as is the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway (M-11). Additionally, the M-5 motorway from Sher Shah Multan to Zahir Pir has been closed to ensure commuter safety.
An NHMP spokesperson emphasized that these measures are crucial for public safety, noting that lane violations in such foggy conditions can lead to serious accidents. Travelers are advised to avoid unnecessary journeys, especially during late-night hours when fog tends to be denser.
The NHMP has issued a travel advisory urging motorists to keep their vehicles’ fog lights on and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. They also recommend using wiper blades continuously to improve visibility.
For real-time updates and assistance, travelers can contact the Motorway Helpline or access the NHMP’s live portal and social media channels.
