Mustafa Kamal, the Federal Health Minister, has kick-started one of the darkest political periods in Pakistan in a breathtaking twist of events. He charged Altaf Hussain with the plotting and execution of the murder of Dr. Imran Farooq in 2010 directly, in an explosive press conference on December 28, 2025. Kamal claimed that the murder was a drunken birthday present to MQM leader.
Mustafa Kamal Targets Altaf Hussain in Murder Probe
Kamal claims the hit on Imran Farooq silenced internal party dissent. He further alleged that Altaf Hussain received RAW funding for decades. However, the legal reality in the UK remains a hurdle. While a Pakistani court convicted three men for the Dr. Imran Farooq death in 2020, British authorities never charged Hussain. Supporters highlight his 2022 UK acquittal in a terrorism trial to dismiss these new claims.
The reaction from other leaders was swift and harsh. Mustafa Azizabadi of MQM-London called the claims “filthy politics” and demanded evidence.
In 2020, Kamal cited the case of the Anti-Terrorism Court in Pakistan in which Hussain was convicted of the subordinates and made an offer to cooperate with the UK courts. The utterances sparked a renewed discussion of the history of MQM, supposed funding by the RAW and further role of Hussain in the Karachi politics.
