NAB Will Present Fawad Hasan Fawad in Accountability Court Today

The National Accountability Bureau will present Fawad Hasan Fawad in court today after he was arrested a day earlier on charges of corruption in Ashiana –e-Iqbal Housing Scheme case.

NAB officials initially denied the arrest of Fawad Hasan Fawad on Thursday, stating that he was summoned to the bureau for questioning purpose.

However, Director General NAB Lahore Shahzad Saleem later told the media that Fawad Hasan Fawad was arrested for causing corruption of billions of rupees to the national treasure in various scams.


The anti-graft body will request the accountability court to grant a physical remand of the accused for further investigation.

Commenting on Fawad Hasan Fawad arrest, PML-N leader and former Punjab law minister Rana Sanaullah blamed NAB been used before elections for such purposes.

The case

According to NAB officials, Fawad Hasan Fawad wrongfully awarded the Ashiana-e-Iqbal Housing Scheme’s contract to ‘favorites’. He illegally awarded contracts for nine CNG stations and also illegally worked in a private bank from 2005 to 2006.

NAB also said that when Fawad Hasan Fawad was the provincial health secretary, he acquired six mobile health units which were purchased at a higher-than-market rate.

Fawad Hasan Fawad has served as former PM Nawaz Sharif’s principal secretary and is considered close to him.

The accused bureaucrat was also being probed by NAB that there is no proof for his possessed assets beyond known sources of income.

According to NAB, the contract for the housing scheme was won by a construction company titled Chaudhry Latif and Sons.

NAB also claims that former Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his supporters awarded the Rs14 billion contract to Lahore Casa Developers, a proxy group of Paragon City (Pvt.) Limited, which is said to be owned by Railways Minister Saad Rafique.

Fawad Hasan Fawad was implementation secretary to the chief minister Punjab at the time, leveled charges of wrongdoings against Chaudhry Latif and Sons in order for the contract to be awarded to Casa Developers.
