NADRA Biometric Verification Rules Changes: Facial Recognition and Eye Scan Mandatory!

NADRA has officially updated biometric verification with facial and iris scans. This move helps elderly citizens and those with faded fingerprints access essential services. Starting January 20, 2026, new verification certificates will solve long-standing identity hurdles for millions across the country.

Following direct orders from the Prime Minister, NADRA updated the National Identity Card rules. Biometrics no longer mean just fingerprints. The law now recognizes your face and iris as valid proof of identity.

How the New Facial Recognition-Based Biometric Verification Works?

You can now use the Pak-ID smartphone app for contactless verification. This app uses your phone’s camera to match your face against national records. If you visit a center and your fingerprints fail, NADRA will issue a special biometric verification certificate starting January 20.

These certificates contain your CNIC, a fresh photo, and a secure QR code. They stay valid for seven days. You can take this document to banks or telecom offices to prove who you are without needing a fingerprint match.

Impact on Digital Services in Pakistan

This shift makes life easier for everyone. The system already supports online vehicle transfers and passport applications. Soon, federal pensioners can use this “proof-of-life” technology from home.

NADRA is now urging private banks and agencies to upgrade their hardware. Organizations need camera-enabled devices to support this facial recognition rollout. This change isn’t just about tech; it’s about making sure no citizen is left behind because of a faded thumbprint.
